Oh Samantha Stephens. When I was a little girl I wanted to BE her. Bewitched is one of my favorite shows of all time. I bought the boxed set and got my nieces obsessed with it too! I think this show is the reason I love green so much. I mean, look at that carpet!! Awesome. I love love love this house.
And what's not to love about this fabulous living room and that awesome lamp! I know, this screams the 70's but I LOVE IT! Maybe because seeing it just reminds me of my childhood? I don't know.
But what I do know is- just to the left of Samantha in this shot sits "the bar". Maybe because drinking was a huge no no in my house growing up I became obsessed with that bar. The entire show consisted of Darrin (or Derwood hee hee) working his advertising job, Samantha being the domestic goddess and- cocktails. With your friends, clients, family, wherever and whenever- cocktails. And not the frilly stuff of today, oh no! The hard stuff. Straight up. On ice. And I loved how there was always ice in the bucket ready to go.
Well all this leads me to tell you about my latest obsession. I'm on a mission to find antique decanters with those hanging silver labels. Just like Samantha. Just want to fulfill a lifelong dream, and just cause they're pretty:) I'd love to have friends just stop by and I'd say " Oh hey! Come on in! Scotch? Bourbon?" Yeah right! Nobody drinks like that anymore :( It's more like "Oh hey! Can I get you something to drink? Water?" Whatever the drink, it will sure look cool in a beautiful glass with ice out of a silver bucket :)
Am I alone here? Or did your childhood television shows affect you this way??
Oooh I love this. After reading it, I thought 'I should find a nice antique decanter for my sister'....wellll, I searched online and all the really lovely ones were more than $1,000. I guess I'll have to look out for one at my favorite antique/junk stores. xoxo
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, yes! I have no idea why, but I was in love with this house too! Maybe because I lived in Mesa and brick was rare. I wanted that front door with the half-moon/wagon wheel window. Every inch of the house was finished off with occasional tables and decor. I loved those stairs too. I wanted stairs in our house even though we lived in a ranch!
ReplyDeleteI had a Samantha paper doll with "rub on" clothes that stuck to her and didn't come flying off when she cast her spells! I could never twitch my nose though I tried and tried!
Have you noticed that this house has been used in various shows over the years? In the 1970-ish movie "Brian's Song" it was the home of Brian Piccolo. It was blown up by Tim Allen on a "Home Improvement episode, and so on...
Glad to know I was not a trange child! I loved the Brady's house too, and the Cleaver's second house, and...
I am so very sorry that it has taken me awhile to visit you.
ReplyDeleteI too adored Samantha and still wish I had her nose twitching abilities. Oh and what about I Dream of Jeannie? Ah, happy memories.
You just might adore the two 70's themed posts I wrote recently. (Apr. 23/26)
As a Halloween addict, I was in love with the Addams Family house. I have always wanted a house that looked like it could be haunted. I grew up in a ranch house (who would haunt a rancher?) and dreamed of a two-story that I could make scary for Halloween. For some reason, in my mind, only two-story houses can be haunted...but not a split-level. Something older than that. Just two weeks ago, my husband and I moved into a 97-year-old arts & crafts style home that's just perfect to be haunted. Not as scary as the Addams Family house mind you, but it will decorate just fine for now. :)
